We Have to Be Paid for What We Are Worth
Being an expert, a thought leader, or a keynote speaker often comes with the challenge of deciding when—and how—you should be compensated for your efforts. In this episode of The Daily Hint, we explore the delicate balance between providing value for free and ensuring you’re paid for your worth.
Here’s the crux of the issue: Many CEOs and leaders speak on stages without compensation, thinking of it as a way to build credibility. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, it’s crucial to have a strategy that ensures your time and expertise translate into tangible benefits.
There are two main approaches discussed:
1. Speaking for Free with a Purpose
When presenting at unpaid events, it’s essential to think long-term. Craft your presentation to subtly attract potential clients, customers, or opportunities. A carefully planned pitch—one that doesn’t feel overly salesy—can turn a free speaking engagement into a profitable venture down the line.
2. Speaking for Pay
When you’re being compensated for your speaking engagement, the focus shifts entirely to delivering an exceptional experience for the audience. Here, there’s no hidden agenda—just impactful, value-driven insights.
The key takeaway? Always evaluate your opportunities and strategize accordingly. Whether it’s through direct payment or by leveraging your platform to attract opportunities, you should always ensure your efforts are rewarded.
Tune in to this episode for actionable strategies to elevate your personal brand and maximize the value of your expertise.

A lot of CEOs speak on stage for free. I believe everyone should be paid, at least through the backdoor. So when I'm speaking on stage, either I'm not getting paid and I do it 100 percent for free for the organizer, but then I'm building in a pitch that allows people to be attracted to where I want to have them.
so that I can gain customers and clients and or sell products at the back end of my keynote. If not, I am speaking 100 percent for money and I will not build in a pitch because when I am paid for delivering a keynote, I am delivering a keynote that is 100 percent focused on the audience. When I'm invited as a speaker for a free event and not getting paid, I'm always looking into how can I bring in a pitch that is not too salesy, but we are all winning.
We all need to focus on how do we get paid for what we worth it.
