What Really Powers a Company Through Tough Times is Action, Not Theories

In the business world, knowledge is valuable, but experience is irreplaceable. Many executives rely on education, frameworks, and theories to guide their decisions, but when a company faces real challenges, action—not theory—makes the difference.

An MBA may offer insights into business strategy, but it doesn’t prepare leaders for the unpredictability of tough times. Those who have built their own businesses, managed real risks, and navigated financial constraints understand what it takes to survive. The difference? They’ve put their own capital, energy, and effort on the line.

So how can leaders sharpen their decision-making skills? One way is by running a business alongside their corporate roles—even if it’s a small, self-funded venture. The challenge of making a business profitable without outside investment forces a leader to focus on what truly matters: cash flow, value creation, and resilience.

In this episode of The Daily Hint, we explore why hands-on experience is the best business education. If you want to strengthen your leadership and crisis management skills, put yourself in a position where every decision counts. The best way to learn business? Run one.

Listen now and start leading with action.

I'm not against doing an MBA. I understand it because I come from big corporate and understand the situations when you go into a top management position that you have certain educations needed. But if we think about running a company through a difficult time, an MBA in the theory often doesn't help you.

But running your own company does. If you're building your own company, you know what to focus on. You know what is the essence of every business. Theoretically, we as executives and organizations, we know this as well, but we have never used our own capital and our own blood and sweat to go through this.

So if you have the possibility next to what you do, run your own business and try to run it in a way that you need to drive profit and you're putting zero money into that business. It needs to drive profit. Try it and you see what happens. It's a real life MBA.
