Why 99% of CEO LinkedIn Profiles Are Terrible

Your LinkedIn profile is more than just a digital resume—it’s your personal brand, your credibility, and often the first impression you make on industry leaders, clients, and investors. Yet, most CEOs treat it like a forgotten webpage, leaving major opportunities on the table.

In this episode of The Daily Hint, we explore the three critical mistakes CEOs make on LinkedIn and how to fix them to strengthen influence, build authority, and attract the right connections.

Mistake #1: An Unprofessional or Generic Profile Photo & Banner

Your profile photo and banner are the first things people notice. If your picture is outdated, unclear, or unprofessional, it immediately weakens your credibility.

Fix it: Use a high-quality headshot where your face is clearly visible. Pair it with a banner that reflects your industry, company, or personal brand—something that instantly tells visitors what you do.

Mistake #2: A Weak or Underutilized About Section

Most CEOs either leave this section blank or write a stiff, uninspiring corporate bio. This is a wasted opportunity. Your About section should tell your story, engage the reader, and clearly communicate your expertise and mission.

Fix it: Instead of a robotic summary, write a compelling narrative. Share your journey, what drives you, and how you bring value. Make it clear, concise, and engaging.

Mistake #3: Treating Job Descriptions Like a Boring CV

Many executives list their past roles in a dry, bullet-point format—just like a traditional resume. But LinkedIn is a branding tool, not just a job board.

Fix it: Transform job descriptions into credibility-building stories. Highlight key achievements, lessons learned, and the impact you’ve had in each role. Show, don’t just tell.

If you want to be seen as a leader in your industry, your LinkedIn profile needs to work for you—not against you. Make these small but powerful changes today, and watch how your influence grows.

Your LinkedIn profile is costing you credibility. These are the three things every CEO should fix. Number one is changing your photo and the background banner. Your photo should be clear, your face should be visible, it should be professional, and then your background banner should be as well connected to what you do and having it very, very.

Clear to what you are doing so people will understand that. And then the second point is that you have an about section inside of your LinkedIn profile. A lot of CEOs don't really use that and just do a little bit of content there, write a story, drag people into who you are and utilize that for yourself.

And the third thing is that you have job descriptions. That's literally like a CV inside of your LinkedIn profile. You can use that to show stories and credibility. Have a look at my profile and look how I build this. You can do this too, and the credibility will be seen by everyone in the industry.
