The Strength in Vulnerability

Authenticity in Leadership

A significant focus of the episode is on the importance of authenticity in leadership roles. Jens critiques the prevalent practice of maintaining a professional facade that separates one's true self from their organizational persona. He advocates for leaders to be true to themselves in all aspects of life, asserting that authenticity should not be compromised for the sake of conformity.

Learning from Mistakes

Jens also delves into the positive aspects of acknowledging and sharing one's failures. He shares personal experiences of admitting mistakes, emphasizing that such admissions are not admissions of defeat but opportunities for learning and growth. This approach not only humanizes leaders but also encourages a culture of transparency and continuous improvement within teams.

Vulnerability is awesome. Yes, it is. Even though that we sometimes think it's not. Being open and vulnerable to people that you work with is a positive thing because they're they're attracted to you in a completely different way.

Being open and being human is the best thing we can do as managers and leaders in organizations because that's not normal in this world. A lot of people are building a surface on playing a role in organizational context of who they are and then when they're outside in a private life, then they're a different person. I don't think that's a good thing. We should always be who we are and don't play a game and don't play a role because we're humans and we can be vulnerable in what we are doing.

Be open and say when you do things wrong. Because when you do things wrong, you can learn from it. I tried my best to succeed, but I failed and that's fine.
