Stay On Brand but More Important, Stay True to Yourself

In this episode of The Daily Hint, we challenge the traditional concept of “staying on brand.” For corporations, brand consistency ensures global recognition. However, when it comes to personal branding, staying rigidly “on brand” might hold you back.

As humans, we’re dynamic. Our interests, passions, and values evolve over time. Whether it’s diving into sustainability, long-distance running, or simply enjoying a good Netflix binge, these interests shape who we are but may not always align with our professional personas. And that’s okay.

The key takeaway? Personal branding should be about authenticity. Rather than forcing yourself into a predefined box, let your evolving interests and values guide your brand. Stay true to yourself, and you’ll build deeper, more meaningful connections—both personally and professionally.

Tune in to hear how embracing your full self can elevate your personal branding strategy.

There is this saying that stay on brand, which I don't agree with. Staying on brand means you are boxed into something that you're supposed to be all the time. And I get it when you talk about large corporations, then you have a brand framework and everything needs to be exactly like this because that's how the brand should be recognized.

around the globe. But as individuals, if we think about personal branding, we are humans and we are changing over time. So that means as well, we are interested in different things. Like I'm interested in long distance running, like I'm interested in sustainability, like I'm interested in watching Netflix or reading books.

And that's not always something that's connected to what I'm doing in business because I just enjoy life and love people. So staying on brand in this context doesn't work though. It does. Yeah. Because stay on brand to yourself, works.
