Pacing is What I Learned as a Leader

Let’s explore the crucial leadership lesson of pacing. As leaders, it’s natural to want to move quickly and get results fast. But what happens when the pace you set starts to outstrip your team’s ability to keep up?

In my experience managing teams across various organizations, I learned that speed isn’t always the best approach. While moving fast can drive short-term wins, long-term success often relies on finding a sustainable pace that aligns with your team’s capabilities. I share how pushing too hard can lead to burnout and reduced morale, ultimately impacting overall performance. I had to learn this lesson by stepping back, understanding my team’s capacity, and re-evaluating expectations to create a healthy balance.

In this episode, I discuss practical steps to assess whether your team’s pace is sustainable, along with insights on how leaders can adjust their rhythm for lasting success. Tune in to find out how a thoughtful approach to pacing can lead to stronger, more resilient teams. Are you setting the right pace for your team’s best performance?

I have been a manager in a lot of organization and I'm fairly quickly in what I'm doing. And sometimes what I needed to learn for myself is that I'm too quick. So adjusting the pace for me was an important skill to learn. And that started with understanding. members in my team and seeing their struggling with the pace I set, thought that maybe the organization needed it at that time.

I was pushing a little bit too hard, so that meant I needed to step back, talk with the team and understand what is the pace they can sustain over time. Because Only then you will be successful as a team. And this was one thing I learned the hard way, and you can do that in a different way because you can do it from today on.

Look how fast you are working with your team members. And are you expecting too much from them, specifically when it comes to pace?
