It Matters What You Do, Not What You Say

Episode

Welcome to another episode of The Daily Hint with Jens Heitland. Today's episode, "It Matters What You Do, Not What You Say," tackles a crucial aspect of leadership: the importance of aligning actions with words.

In many organizations, leaders often articulate the right intentions but fail to follow through with corresponding actions. They might express support and belief in their team members, yet engage in micromanagement or fail to advocate for their employees during crucial promotion discussions. This inconsistency can erode trust and hinder the development of an inclusive and positive work environment.

Here are the main takeaways from the episode:

Consistency in Leadership: Leaders must ensure their actions consistently reflect their stated values and beliefs. This builds trust and credibility within the team.

Human-Centric Leadership: Focus on creating a work environment that values and respects every individual. A human-centric approach to leadership fosters inclusivity and employee satisfaction.

Authentic Advocacy: Truly support your team by advocating for them in critical discussions and decision-making processes. Demonstrating genuine support can significantly impact morale and career development.

Organizational Change: For companies to evolve and thrive, leaders need to spearhead change by embodying the principles they preach. This transformation begins with self-reflection and a commitment to authentic leadership.

Building Inclusive Workplaces: Leaders play a pivotal role in shaping workplace culture. Prioritize inclusivity and strive to create an environment where all employees feel valued and empowered.

This episode underscores the necessity for leaders to practice what they preach. By aligning actions with words, leaders can build trust, drive positive change, and create workplaces where people love to be.

A lot of managers and organizations  are talking the right things, but then doing the exact opposite. They're saying, I believe in you and I'm supporting you and I'm helping you, but then they're micromanaging you. They want to promote you, but then they're not fighting for you when they come into the round of promotional discussions somewhere with HR or in the higher up.

We as leaders need to be truly ourselves and truly reflecting our leadership throughout.  I believe that we need to change the way we lead people in organizations. We need to be truly human centric and focus on how can we build an inclusive work environment where people love to be. If we're not capable of doing this, first, we're not the right leaders. Second, we have a company problem.

I believe that companies need to change and they only going to change if we as leaders take the lead and change ourselves.
