Why I Deliver Keynotes for The Audience, Not for Myself
In this episode of The Daily Hint with Jens Heitland, I delve into the approach I take when delivering keynotes, and why focusing on the audience—not the speaker—leads to greater success.
Keynotes should provide value to the people in the room, not just showcase the speaker’s knowledge. This is why I always start with a discovery phase. When I’m asked to give a keynote, I conduct an interview to understand who will be attending and what their needs are. Knowing the audience is critical to crafting a message that resonates with them.
By focusing on delivering value to the audience, the keynote becomes a more engaging and meaningful experience. Audience members who find your message valuable are not only more interested in what you have to say, but they’re also more likely to seek out further collaboration or partnerships.
This episode covers the key strategies for transforming a keynote from a personal showcase into an opportunity to serve your audience. Whether you’re an aspiring speaker or a seasoned professional, these tips can help you connect on a deeper level with your audience and increase your impact.
Tune in to learn how a simple shift in perspective can make a big difference in your next presentation!

When I'm getting asked to do a keynote, I start with an interview. I try to discover what are the needs? What are the people that are in the room? And what do they want to get out of the keynote that I'm giving? When I am on stage, I'm focusing on delivering value to the people.
It's not. about me. It's about the people that are in that room and what they get out of it. Because when I can create value to the people,
they will be more engaged in my keynote, they will be interested, and in return, they will look me up. And some of them might want to work with me, and some of the organizations want to work with me, but that's only the result of starting with an interview and a briefing so that I know as a keynote speaker, what to deliver so that the other people in the room can succeed.
