This Is How You Step Up From Manager To Leader
In the latest episode of The Daily Hint with Jens Heitland, we explore the crucial differences between being a manager and being a true leader. The distinction isn’t just in the title; it’s in the approach and mindset you bring to your role.
Many managers fall into the trap of offering solutions before they fully understand the problems their teams are facing. They jump in with answers, often cutting off the opportunity for team members to express their thoughts, ideas, and concerns. This approach might get tasks done, but it stifles growth, innovation, and ultimately, the potential of the team.
True leadership requires a shift from dictating to listening. It involves stepping back and allowing your team members the space to express themselves fully. Instead of jumping to conclusions or providing ready-made solutions, great leaders ask thoughtful questions, guiding their teams to discover the answers themselves. This not only empowers team members but also fosters a culture of growth and self-reliance.
In this episode, we discuss how making this shift can transform your management style and make you a more effective leader. We delve into practical strategies for becoming a better listener, resisting the urge to provide immediate solutions, and encouraging your team to take ownership of their decisions.
By embracing these principles, you’ll not only enhance your leadership skills but also future-proof your career in a world where the role of a manager is rapidly evolving. Tune in to learn how you can step up from being a manager to becoming a true leader.

One of the problems of managers who are not leaders is they're not listening they already give you the answer before they even understand what you are asking for. A lot of managers have this problem.
They always go straight into the solution area and give you the task and the decisions you should be making, rather than stopping, shutting up, and giving you the possibility to talk. If you want to be a leader, Step up and listen. Don't talk until the other person stops talking and even then wait one, or two seconds to enable them to talk more.
So you are not jumping in and giving them a solution. You enable them to grow by figuring out the solution themselves and you help them by asking questions. Managers need to step up and be great leaders. If they don't, I believe they're obsolete in the next couple of years.
