Micromanaging People is the Worst Thing Leaders Can Do

In today’s episode of The Daily Hint, we tackle one of the most harmful leadership habits: micromanagement. When leaders hover over every task and decision, they inadvertently push their team members away. Employees become disengaged, stop taking initiative, and are less likely to approach their manager for guidance. This leadership style stifles creativity and prevents personal and professional development.

The key takeaway is simple: stop micromanaging and start empowering. Leaders who give their team the space to make decisions, even if mistakes happen, foster a culture of trust and growth. By turning the tables and becoming an empowering leader, you’ll find that your team members come to you for advice, rather than feeling forced to accept your opinions.

In 2024 and beyond, micromanagers will struggle, while those who empower their teams will thrive. In this episode, we explore the practical steps leaders can take to shift their approach and create a more engaged, innovative, and motivated workforce.

Transcript:

Micromanaging people is the worst thing you can do as a manager because that turns everyone away from you and people are hiding as much as possible. They don't want to show anything to you anymore because they know that you're asking 20, 000 questions and going into details. They don't feel empowered.

They are taking things away from them because you anyhow take them. As more you micromanage, as less people develop, and as more people will go away from you. Try it and turn things around. Be a non-micromanager and empower people. People will come closer to you and want to learn from you and want to have your opinion.

Rather than you pushing people and getting your opinion to them, they will come to you and ask you about your opinion. In 2024 and beyond, micromanagers will not win. Empowering leaders will win.
