Lead by Example

Welcome to another episode of The Daily Hint with Jens Heitland. In today's episode titled "Lead by Example," we explore a fundamental principle of effective leadership: the power of setting a positive example.

If you're aspiring to step into a managerial role or simply want to enhance your leadership skills, there is no better way than to embody the behaviors you expect from others. When you practice what you preach, your team is more likely to follow suit, creating a culture of integrity and excellence.

Drawing from personal experience, I share a powerful anecdote from my time at IKEA, the renowned furniture company. One of the core leadership principles at IKEA, emphasized by its founder, is the importance of leading by example. Imagine the impact when the highest-ranking individual in the company, the founder himself, takes the time to pick up trash from the floor. This simple yet profound action speaks volumes about the company's values and sets a standard for everyone to follow.

Leading by example is not just about maintaining appearances; it's about demonstrating commitment, fostering respect, and building trust within your team. When leaders are seen actively participating and upholding the standards they set, it encourages a sense of responsibility and ownership among team members.

Tune in to this episode to learn how you can apply this timeless leadership lesson in your own career. Whether you're navigating the challenges of a new managerial position or seeking to refine your leadership approach, leading by example is a powerful tool that can drive positive change and inspire those around you.

If you want to be a leader that is seen as a good leader and you're on the verge  of getting into a manager position, there's nothing better than being the good example. Do the things that you expect others to do  and people will see that you do that and because you do that.

They will follow your example. What I have seen, and that's the example I always give, I had the pleasure to work in IKEA. And IKEA is the well known furniture company. And  being the good example is one of the leadership topics that everyone gets taught on. And this comes from the founder of IKEA. The founder of IKEA  went through  an IKEA store and is picking up the trash from the floor.

Imagine this. The most important person of the company  is picking up the trash from the floor. How do other people see that?
