Don’t Apply to Your Dream Job

When it comes to landing your dream job, the traditional approach may not be your best bet. In this episode of The Daily Hint, we explore why sending in a standard job application might place you among hundreds of others competing for the same position—and how you can rise above the crowd with a strategic approach.

Instead of competing in the applicant pool, this episode highlights the importance of positioning yourself directly in front of decision-makers. By building relationships within your target organization, you can increase your visibility and credibility, gaining the attention of the very people who decide who gets hired. This approach is all about forming genuine connections and ensuring that your name surfaces before the official hiring process even begins.

We share how developing relationships with key players within the company can make all the difference. When managers know and trust you, they’re more likely to push your application to the top of the stack or even create an opportunity specifically for you. The key takeaway is that networking, visibility, and relationship-building are far more effective strategies for landing your dream job than simply applying like everyone else.

Tune in to learn how you can make this strategy work for you and take the first steps toward securing the job you’ve always wanted.

Don't apply to your dream job. That might sound weird, but I believe you should not apply to your dream job because your dream job will be the dream job of, let's say, at least a couple of hundred. You need to build a strategy that gets you visible and credible to the decider of that organization so that you get closer to that organization, get closer to the deciding people inside of the organization, and build a relationship.

When you have that relationship, you can drop in that you would be interested in working with them, and then they will offer you a job. It's the other way around how you can get your dream job. If you are one out of 100, it's very, very hard to get your dream job. But if you have a relationship and the manager of the manager that is looking for you or someone like you is putting your application on top of the rest, you will see, you will get the job.

I have done it myself and you can do so too.
